In the last six weeks, the East Rockaway village board, along with the village’s Department of Public Works, has installed several new, attractive welcome signs at various points along the village border.
While the theme of the signs is consistent, using nautical fonts as a nod to the village’s history as a fishing and clamming area, they serve a larger purpose according to Lenahan.
“Giving East Rockaway and its borders a visual identity will help the village upkeep a clear and consistent image to homeowners, visitors and travelers alike as well as help people recognize our village and help advance our positive image,” said Fran Lenahan. “I’m delighted that the village was able to stay in its allocated budget for the year to continue our commitment to beautifying the community,” said East Rockaway Mayor Fran Lenahan. “The addition of these new welcome signs improves and beautifies our neighborhood but it also provides a greater sense of village pride throughout East Rockaway.”
In addition to this border signage, the village has also recently installed a larger, electronic sign at the Library. This model, a scrolling microsign, will function as a message center that will rotate various announcements and reminders about local upcoming events and activities. “This moving bulletin board will help keep all our neighbors informed of important information,” Lenahan added.
Three large “Village of East Rockaway” signs have been installed: one at the front of Village Hall, another at the East Rockaway Library facing west on Main Street, and yet another at Davison Plaza at the circle.
Additionally, curbside “Welcome to East Rockaway” signs are now located on Atlantic Avenue, Pearl Street, Ocean Avenue, S. Park Ave., Rocklyn Avenue, Forest Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Scranton Avenue and Waverly Avenue.
