In last week’s editorial, we asked some notable people to offer some words of wisdom to recent high school graduates. We couldn’t fit them all in, so the rest of the wise and insightful comments are on this page.
Choices have consequences
Now that you have graduated from high school, your future looms ahead of you bright and full of hope and vision. Remember that your choices you make in life will come back with a guaranteed consequence, either positive or negative. Take a few moments and give God a chance to direct your path as He knows why He created you so uniquely. He has a plan for you — one with a future and lots of purpose.
Dr. Stephan P Hurkens
Pastor of East Rockaway Nazarene Church
Respect yourself
Love yourself. You should zealously inspect all things that enter your body, your mind, your soul, and your heart. Never allow your mind to be attracted to evil and despair — rather uplift it with the knowledge of the ages. Keep your perspective. Remember, the best is yet to come.

Let’s shake on it
Be of service to others, and have a strong handshake. These two things, to me, are incredibly impressive.”
John Bartlett
Award-winning menswear designer, animal activist, graduate of Harvard University and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
Make a difference
Become engaged in your family and community. Be an informed citizen and support those who go out and make a positive difference. Be one of those people yourself.
There’s an old saying that you should do good, do well and always do your best. That’s sound advice that will never steer you wrong.
