AKIRA, a fashion retailer known for its bold, statement-driven style, opened its newest store at Green Acres with a full-day launch celebration.

The event, held on Nov. 15, marked the brand’s latest expansion into Long Island and introduced shoppers to its immersive retail experience.

The grand-opening festivities included multiple promotions. The first 100 people in line received an exclusive AKIRA-branded gift. Shoppers who spent $100 or more received a special gift with purchase and visitors throughout the day were able to participate in in-store games and limited-time prize opportunities created specifically for the opening. The celebration was open to the public and aimed at showcasing the retailer’s approach to fashion and customer experience.

The new AKIRA store features the brand’s signature layout and offerings, including statement apparel, footwear and accessories designed for shoppers looking to make a strong style impression.

“AKIRA’s opening signals another meaningful achievement in our effort to define Green Acres as a vibrant, future-focused destination,” Rich Madramuthu, Vice President of Leasing at Macerich, said.  “This addition reflects our dedication to offering the community fresh, in-demand retail experiences and continues to strengthen the evolving mix of standout brands at the center.”

The Valley Stream location adds to AKIRA’s national footprint, which began with a single boutique in Chicago’s Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood in 2002 and has grown to more than 40 stores across 14 states, in addition to a large e-commerce presence and a wholesale division.

The arrival of AKIRA comes as the Green Acres property continues a significant redevelopment. The 400,000-square-foot project includes the transformation of the former Kohl’s building, the addition of outward-facing storefronts, new inviting green spaces, expanded open-air dining areas, and a redesigned grand entrance in the northeast wing. The center has also recently announced new tenants, including ShopRite, The Cheesecake Factory, Panda Express, Shake Shack, Sephora and Dave’s Hot Chicken.

Green Acres, positioned on the border of Queens and Nassau County, remains a major regional shopping destination with access from Sunrise Highway and multiple NICE and NYC bus routes. It is already home to retailers and restaurants such as Macy’s, Old Navy, HomeGoods, Primark, Uniqlo, H&M, Victoria’s Secret, Burlington, Pandora, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle.

The opening of AKIRA adds another fashion-focused option for shoppers as the center moves forward with its redevelopment and expansion.
