Lifelong Rockville Centre resident Alan J. Huber died on Jan. 3 after a long illness. He was 77.

A marine insurance broker with Johnson & Higgins, he was married to Patricia (nee Toomey) for 49 years. She is the co-owner of the Better Home Health Care agency on Merrick Road.

Huber was a 1951 graduate of South Side High School and a 1955 graduate of New York State Maritime College. As a lieutenant in the Navy stationed on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga, he once bought an MG car in Gibraltar and drove it onto the flight deck to bring it back to the states.

In later years Huber was a member of the Rockville Centre Fire Department’s Live Oak Engine Company. An avid Mets fan, he was also active in the Rockville Centre Little League.

Alan Huber was the son of the late Alice and Joseph Huber, a former Rockville Centre postmaster who was the namesake of Huber Court. He leaves behind four children — Wendy (Dan Navarino); Jay (Nancy); Nancy (Neil McNally) and Andrew (Debbie) as well as 12 grandchildren — Marissa, Daniel and Elizabeth Navarino; Christopher, Ryan, Brendan and Emily Huber; Bryan, Lauren and Luke McNally and Matthew and Gavin Huber. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul and John Huber.

A wake was held for Huber at Thomas A. Glynn & Son Funeral Home and his funeral took place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Jan. 6. His family says that donations may be made in his memory to the Alan Huber Memorial Fund at South Nassau Communities Hospital, P.O. Box 843, Baldwin NY 11510 or online at www.southnassau.org.
