All in an Earth Day

Posted
These and other ways of befriending the planet were the focus of an Earth Day celebration at Reinhard Early Childhood Center in Bellmore on April 22.
The children helped to plant a tree on school grounds as part of their school's participation in "The Greening of Nassau" project. Forty schools planted 43 shade trees through the initiative, designed to raise students' awareness of the importance of trees in reducing air pollution, saving energy and other earth-friendly benefits.
The project was co-sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassu, in cooperation with County Legislator Dave Denenberg and the County Department of Public Works Commissioner Robert Ribiero and in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Southwest Nassau, Plant Health Care, Inc., the Sierra Club, the U.S. Forest Service, NY ReLear-DEC, and Nassau BOCES Outdoor and Environmental Education Program.
