Allegria's new pool, with a view

The Allegria Hotel, located at 80 West Broadway, has become the first hotel to boast the only rooftop pool on Long Island.

The new pool was craned up to the roof of the hotel last Friday, Oct. 1. The installation, while originally scheduled for 10 a.m., failed to take-off due to inclement weather, which included rain and heavy winds. Although attempts that morning to lift the pool were halted, the pool was finally hoisted to the top of the hotel with a 40 ton crane ands installed on the roof at 3 p.m.

Laura Vivonetto, the hotel's marketing manager, explained that plans for an outdoor rooftop pool were in the works since the hotel opened last year on Sept. 3.

"It's a nice addition to have," said Vivonetto, who said that the pool will only add to the Allegria's appeal as the first oceanfront hotel 20 miles east of Manhattan.

The 14 by 36-foot pool, which weighs approximately 20,000 pounds, is an infinity edge pool that runs four-feet deep, is heated, and is intended both for dipping and sun-bathing. Vivonetto also said that the pool is "child-friendly."

Vivonetto said that on New Year's Eve, there will be an opening party for the new pool. The pool will be open year-round, and opens officially for hotel guests this summer.
