An update on Harvard Avenue roadwork in Rockville Centre

Posted

In response to a recent inquiry from the Herald regarding the roadwork on Harvard Avenue, the village released the following information:

The contractor is currently removing concrete and asphalt on Harvard Avenue. This should take about

five days.

Workers first pull the asphalt and then remove the concrete. As they remove it, they fill and grade the surface to prepare for asphalt.

The next phase is laying down the base asphalt. Application of the base asphalt is approximately two weeks away, weather permitting.

Harvard Avenue has had a lot of infrastructure work done. These include “cut in tees” and new valve clusters at each intersection for future water main upgrades down the intersecting streets. (This was done so that when the time comes, workers will not have to dig up Harvard again.)

New fire hydrants were installed as part of the project as well.

A 4,000 linear foot 9-way duct bank with laterals at each intersection and 17 electric vaults were installed for future use. And approximately 30 8’ x 12’ deep drywells and related piping were installed for drainage purposes at various locations on Harvard.

The village spokesman said the majority of delays on Harvard have been weather-related. This has put completion of the work back about two weeks, but he said the overall project is on schedule.
