Stroke screenings. The East Meadow Fire Department will be hosting stroke prevention screenings, sponsored by Precision Screening Plus, at 197 East Meadow Ave. on Monday, March 21 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Licensed ultrasound technologists will perform four non-invasive, ultrasound exams to determine the risk of stroke, aneurysm, peripheral vascular disease and osteoporosis. Most people who suffer from a stroke or aneurysm never show symptoms before they occur. Individual tests are $60, any three for $135 and all four for $150. St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church is holding a rock n' roll oldies fund-raiser April 30 at Kellenberg Memorial High School.The show will start at 7 p.m. and feature the Dubs, the Chantels, the DelVikings, Shep's Limelights and the Fireflies. Kiwanis meetings. The East Meadow Kiwanis, a chapter of the international charity organization, is always looking for new members. The East Meadow Kiwanis is the largest Kiwanis chapter in the state.
Knights of Pythias. The Knights of Pythias Alliance-East Meadow Lodge 774 is seeking new members to join its ranks. The Knights of Pythias is one of the most active fraternal organizations, chartered by the United States Congress. This non-sectarian organization serves the community through a number of altruistic endeavors, including food baskets for the needy, donations to charitable organizations, anti-drug programs, and a host of other activities. Indie film. Commentator Dylan Skolnick of the Cinema Arts Center in Huntington will be on hand for a screening of "The Station Agent," Monday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. When his only friend dies, a young man with dwarfism moves to an abandoned train depot in rural New Jersey.
Book discussion. "Brother and Sister," by Joanna Trollope, will be discussed Wednesday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. The library's evening book discussion group meets monthly.
Computer classes. Registration has begun for March and April computer classes at the library. Computer Fourth Grade for Adults will be held Tuesday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Computer Fifth Grade from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Computer Kindergarten for Adults will be held Wednesday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Computer First Grade from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Register in person in the public relations office. $10 fee per person, non-refundable.
Play trip.
