According to police, an encounter between two cars at a Bellmore gas station resulted in two groups of youths vowing to fight. The next day, a fight took place in front of 1211 Little Neck Ave. in North Bellmore, in which a 23-year-old male was struck with a four-by-four block of wood.
David Smith, 17, of Little Neck Avenue, allegedly carried out the attack, fled into a nearby house and was later arrested for assault, police said.
The victim was rushed to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he underwent surgery for a depressed skull fracture. He remained in the intensive-care unit in critical condition at press time.
Phillip Giasi, 21, of North Bellmore, and Thomas Brush, 21, James Vouloukos, 20, and Domenick Striano, 21, all of Bellmore, are alleged to have been involved in the fight and were charged with second-degree rioting, according to authorities.
Jessica Alexander, 18, was charged with criminal mischief for allegedly using a pool cue to vandalize a car during the battle.
The defendants were arraigned on Feb. 7 at First District Court in Hempstead.
