The Merrick Chorale begins this season’s rehearsals on Sept. 9. The Chorale is always open to new members, Rehearsals are held Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30 p.m., in the music room of Brookside School Community Center, Meadowbrook Rd., in North Merrick. The performance schedule includes participation in the annual Brotherhood Concert at Thanksgiving, a holiday concert in December and the classical concert in January. The Oceanside Chorale is looking for is looking for new members, especially tenors and basses. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m., at the Merle Avenue School, between Oceanside and Long Beach Rds., in Oceanside. Bel Canto Chorale, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, seeks singers – lower voices are particularly encouraged to audition. The Chorale performs two major concerts each year in addition to a benefit concert and outside performances. All soloists are selected from within the membership. Poor Boy to Rockefeller: Long Island Oysters and Oystermen examines the significant role the humble oyster has played in the lives of Long Islanders over the centuries. The exhibit uses historic objects to explore the biology, economics, geography and history of this natural resource and the industry that developed around it.
