Momix Performs "Opus Cactus" Moses Pendleton's Momix dance ensemble performs Opus Cactus, a full evening work, Friday, Jan. 23, 8 p.m., at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.
Opus Cactus "is inspired by the flora, fauna and simple magic of the American southwest," said dance critic Clive Barnes, who has described the work as "brilliant." It has also received acclaim from The New York Times' Jack Anderson, who pronounced it "two acts of fun and excitement."
The company of dancer-illusionists was founded by Moses Pendleton in 1981. Momix is celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor, and the human body. Momix has performed worldwide and has made frequent film and television appearances. Additionally, Momix was featured in Imagine, one of the first IMAX films.
Pendleton, who also founded the famed Pilobus Dance Theatre, has been a choreographer and dancer for numerous companies. His work for film includes Moses Pendleton Presents Moses Pendleton, for ABC Arts, Julian Lennon's Two Late for Goodbyes, and the Emmy-winning Pictures at an Exhibition with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets are $38, $50 and $60 ($35, $47 and $57 seniors) and can be purchased from TillesCharge at (516) 299-3100 or www.tillescenter.org.
