Ashcan artists

Hoboes, sweatshops, beer halls and even garbage cans are the subject of the exhibit "Old New York and Artists of the Period: 1900-1941," opening August 19 at the Nassau County Museum of Art. Works by artists of the Ashcan School and Realism, such as "The Bowery," by Reginald Marsh, will be on view. See also works by notables such as Robert Henri, John Sloan, George Luks. 'Queen of Soul'

Aretha Franklin, that is, will be visiting Long Island. She will be singing on August 18, at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, as part of the Friends of the Arts' Summer Festival.
