Shanghai foursome

Violinists Weigang Li, Yiwen Jiang and Honggang Li, and cellist Nicholas Tzavaras, otherwise known as the Shanghai Quartet (above), will present "Romantic Voices from the Old and New Worlds" March 25 at the Tilles Center . The Shanghai Quartet, accompanied by pianist Caroline Stoessinger, is slated to perform Barber's Adagio, Op. 11, Griffes' sketches, based on Indian themes, Dvor‡k's Quartet in F Major, Op. 96, and other works. Jazz travels the world

Latin jazz trombonist and composer Angel "Papo" Vazquez will be playing as part of the recently formed sextet "Pirates and Troubadours" on March 23 at Flushing Town Hall in Queens. Papo is best known for his ability to fuse Afro-Caribbean rhythms, particularly those from Cuba and Puerto Rick, with the freer melodic elements of progressive jazz.
