The chamber, headed by President Thomas Valenti of Piccolo Ristorante and Executive Director Joni Caputo, offered a safari theme this year, as reflected its in opening-day parade.
The 25 square blocks of Bellmore Village that the fair encompassed were packed with people. The food vendors, selling hamburgers, hot dogs, shish kebobs and cotton candy, did exceptionally well. The fair was also a chance for shops to show off and sell their wares.
A number of non-profits, from the Bellmore Lions to the Knights of Columbus, were on hand. Central School District student volunteers helped run the Kids' Expo, painting children's faces and helping them create arts-and-crafts projects. And, of course, the Herald had a booth at the fair, and we were more than happy to hand out hundreds of free newspapers and menu guides to all who stopped by.
