Q. A few months ago, I noticed dust in my home that is not the dust I've seen on my furniture before. No one seems to know what it is. It's air borne, fine, very fine dust.
It gets into the eyes, nose and mouth. I replaced my oil burner, cleaned and relined the chimney, now I am waiting for the roofer to change the shingles on the roof.
Could it be the insulation?
A. We had a very dry spring this year and an unusually high pollen count. The foliage came out early and the dryness caused the early blooms to become carried off rather than drawn to the ground with heavy rains. If your windows were and are open, you would experience the effects of this pollen problem.
If all the other things you mention were done, nobody is burning dinner on a regular basis and there is no construction nearby, I would bet that the pollen is your problem. If it persists, and if it becomes a health problem for you, you may want to consider an air cleaner. Between the gadget catalogs and the appliance stores, there are many to choose from. As long as you have a HEPA filter or electrostatic cleaning, you should be able to reduce or even eliminate the problem.
Good luck!
