A Baldwin man was arrested for stabbing a woman and her son with kitchen utensils, detectives say.

According to police, James Porter, 37, of New York Avenue, was arguing with a female victim, 35, in her Baldwin home just before 11 p.m. when he stabbed her with a fork in her right hand. The victim’s son, 14, tried to call the police but Porter took the phone from him, a police report said. The report also described how the alleged victims attempted to leave the house, prompting Porter to stab the boy with a kitchen knife in the left shoulder.

Police say Porter then left the home in his vehicle and was located by First Precinct detectives shortly afterwards. He was eventually placed under arrest in Freeport.

Both victims were treated and released at a local hospital.

Porter was charged with two counts each of second degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, as well as criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.
