Bellmore photographer shows in Italy

Ferrone is a young photographer whose work is fast gaining acclaim. She has displayed her pinhole photographs in a number of Long Island exhibitions. Most recently, Ferrone, who grew up in Merrick, showed her work at the Etoile Toy Visual Arts Gallery in Florence, Italy, in an exhibition sponsored by the U.S. Consulate.
Pinhole photography exposes film to light through a tiny hole. Images are difficult to capture, but in the hands of a skilled photographer like Ferrone, the results can be startling. Everyday objects -- glass doorknobs, fire pits -- become intricate mazes of overlapping detail and color.
Giuliano Serafini, one of Italy's leading art critics, reviewed Ferrone's work favorably, bringing her enormous satisfaction, as her recent exhibition was her first solo show.
Pinhole photography is only one side of Ferrone's work. She is also an aerial photographer who hovers above Long Island in a helicopter, capturing images of sprawling mansions for real-estate company advertisements and lighthouses for Chamber of Commerce guides. Ferrone began her aerial photography business three years ago.
She earned a two-year photography certificate from the Rhode Island School of Photography, and has exhibited her pinhole work for more than a decade at venues such as the Planting Fields Arboretum, the Stepping Stone Gallery and Impromptu Gallery, both in Huntington, and the Focal Point Gallery in City Island, N.Y.
"As an emerging fine-art photographer, I am constantly learning to see, to think, to react," Ferrone says.
