The Bellmore Elementary School District budget passed a public vote on Tuesday, with 792 yes and 705 no votes, an 87-vote margin. Yes votes accounted for 52.9 percent of the total ballots cast.
Bellmore's budget will increase by $1.5 million, or 5.98 percent, to $27.5 million.
Incumbent Trustee Janet Goller ran unopposed and was re-elected to the Board of Education with 962 votes. Incumbent Richard Narby also ran unopposed and was re-elected with 947 votes.
In the North Bellmore School District, the budget passed with 1,355 yes votes and 914 no votes, a 441-vote margin. Yes votes comprised 59.7 percent of the total ballots cast.
Incumbent Trustee Mary Oporto defeated challenger Dan DeLilla for her Board of Education seat. Oporto received 1,213 votes to DeLilla's 614. Incumbent Rosemarie Coreless ran unopposed and was re-elected.
The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District budget passed, with 3,608 yes and 2,427 no votes, a 1,181-vote margin. Yes votes comprised 59.8 percent of the total ballots cast.
Merricks' budgets pass; incumbents re-elected
The Merrick School District's $31.6 million budget passed a public vote on Tuesday, with 1,011 yes and 590 no votes, a 421-vote margin. Yes votes accounted 63 percent of the total ballots cast. Passage of the budget will mean that Merrick will expand its pilot Spanish program from grade six only to grades three through six in 2007-08.
The budget carries a 5.5 percent increase in expenditures over this year. The tax increase on a $600,400 home will be roughly $178.
Incumbent Trustee Joann Seibert ran unopposed for the Board of Education and was re-elected, and Gina Piskin, a former Levy-Lakeside Elementary School president, was unopposed and was elected to the board.
The North Merrick's $28.6 million budget passed, with 652 yes and 442 no votes, a 210-vote margin. Yes votes comprised 59.5 percent of the total ballots cast. Incumbent trustees John Rossi, John Pinto and Linda Fuller were all unopposed and were re-elected to the board.
