Big weekend for Franklin Square and Munson FDSignal 10: A column by Firefighter Tom Scully

The weather should be cooling off soon and the kids will be back in school before you know it. But before summer winds down, the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department, along with the West Hempstead Fire Department, will be jointly hosting a Labor Day Weekend Parade, Drill and Block Party. The Block Party will kick off on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 1 and continue through Sunday evening, Sept. 4 at Franklin Square's headquarters located on Liberty Street between Claflin Boulevard and Jefferson Street.
There will be carnival rides, games and plenty of food, drinks and fun for the whole family. A live band will perform on Friday night and a DJ will spin on Saturday and Sunday nights. For those feeling lucky, there will be a Las Vegas room for gambling on Friday and Saturday nights.
On Sunday, more than 25 fire departments will step off at 5 p.m. on Broadway off Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead and march west past West Hempstead's Headquarters on Hempstead Turnpike to Franklin Square's Headquarters. The parade will be a great showing of firefighters and fire trucks, so make sure to bring the entire family! The weekend will conclude on Monday with the West Hempstead Invitational Drill held at Hempstead's Fireman's Field on Weir Street in Hempstead. You'll see a great motorized tournament with plenty of action all day long. If you've never attended a motorized drill, I suggest you check it out. The trucks alone will get your adrenaline pumping!
