Police discovered the body of a man buried in a shallow grave in the backyard of a North Bellmore home Friday afternoon.
According to a spokeswoman for the Nassau County police, a third party 911 call led investigators to the home for a report of suspicious activity on Thursday.
After an investigation that lasted through Friday morning, police discovered the male head of the household dead, buried in the yard, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to police, family members buried the man after he took his own life, at his request.
Police said that the family complied with the man's last wishes –– "however misguided" –– and buried him in the yard. Family members led them to the body.
No charges have been pressed as of yet, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
