On Saturday, Jan. 9, Boy Scout Troop 362 held a food drive outside the East Meadow Stop & Shop/Wal-Mart benefiting the St. Raphael’s Food Pantry.
The troop had three teams of scouts covering all entrances. While enduring the frigid 20-degree temperatures, the boys handed out fliers to the customers and collected several hundred pounds of food and other items in four hours. In this difficult economic time, the public was extremely generous.
St. Raphael’s R.C. Church in East Meadow takes the food that the scouts collected and brings it into their pantry. The parish will then give food and non-perishables to families in need.
“The Troop Trailer was full from the front and back with boxes full of donated goods and the boys should be very proud of themselves," Assistant Scoutmaster Andy Bonomo said. "They did a fantastic job.”
The Troop thanks all who donated for their support. If you have a son (1st grade or older) interested in finding out more about Scouting, please contact Andy at 516-633-6880 or abonomo@msn.com.
