Brown: "I just wanted to say thanks" Lakeview mother thankful for support during illness

For the past nine months, she has been working as a billing manager in the office of Drs. Felix and Philip Palmeri in Franklin Square. Then, two months ago, she was diagnosed with a serious illness.
Brown did not wish to discuss the specifics of her disease for personal reasons, but she says that since finding out about it, her life has changed completely. "Everything I always wanted to do, I am doing now. I take plenty of pictures, and take weekend drives to see family."
Not only has she found a new appreciation for her life, but she has been the recipient of countless unselfish acts and the good will of her family and co-workers. In light of this, Brown recently contacted the Herald. She wanted to give everyone in her life a fitting thank you. "I felt I could only do so much, but I wanted to do more," said Brown.
In addition to helping her get her less-than-dependable car on the road, Brown says the Drs. Palmeri are always understanding of her medical needs. "They are very supportive and very caring, and make sure me and my boys are okay. They took our family into their hearts as if we were their own children." Brown says that her other co-workers are very much like her coaches, taking care of her on her most difficult days.
Brown also wanted to express her appreciation for her own medical doctors, Dr. Miriam Smith and Dr. Ira Weg. "I would have given up when I was diagnosed if not for them. When I am down, they make me feel better; if I call at 2 a.m., they will answer the telephone." Brown says that her doctors constantly encourage her, telling her that she will have the opportunity to watch all of her children graduate from college.
Another source of strength in Brown's life is her mother Shirley. Brown says her mother is her best friend. Everyday, Shirley watches her three grandchildren so that Brown can go to work.
For these reasons, Brown wished to thank everyone who has helped her during this troublesome time and who kept her spirits up. Brown says that prior to news of her illness, she was not generally a positive person. Since her diagnosis, however, she is "thankful for today and everyday."
