"It went great," said Barabra Schoen, co-president of the PTA. The original date for the playground community build was June 21, but rain put off the pouring of the asphalt surface on which it was to be built.
The following Friday, sunny, dry weather prevailed. The surface was put down, the equipment was laid out by the company and the holes to insert the pieces into the ground were drilled. The students of Covert helped pick the various types of equipment.
About 50 parents showed up at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning ready to work all day. A food committee was prepared to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to the volunteers, but by 3 p.m. the work was done. Dinner was donated to the Bethany House.
The PTA had scheduled the cement truck to come at 5 p.m. because they weren't sure when they would be done. Several parents came back at 5 p.m. to help with the cement.
The only step left will be handled by the school district. A bouncy, rubber ground cover has to be poured for safety.
