Burglary spree hits VS

Posted
Each burglary followed the same pattern, according to officer Stan Slevinski, the Fifth Precinct's crime analyst: a rear door or window was used to get into the homes, with the burglars taking items they could carry out.
On Jan. 5, rear entry was made to houses on Lutz Drive, Casper Street and Olsen Street. A computer and unspecified items were taken from the homes.
Two more burglaries were reported on Jan. 6 on Frank Street and Everett Street. Police reported that $300 and an assortment of jewelry was taken from the house on Everett Street.
The area with the sudden rash of burglaries is a square that runs along Merrick Road to the city line to the Southern State Parkway and then back up to Central Avenue, basically the northwestern section of Valley Stream.
Police reported that a 5'10" man wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a black down jacket and a black wool hat was seen leaving the premises on Olsen Street.
Slevinski said that since Dec. 1, 16 burglaries have been recorded in this particular area. Only 12 burglaries occurred in all of Valley Stream's 20 other patrolling sectors during the same period.

Burglary arrest
On Jan. 4, a 19 -year-old man was arrested on Hart Street in Brooklyn and charged with the burglary of a house in the same northwestern section of Valley Stream that has suffered the recent crime spree. A Nassau detective reported that Edgardo Acevedo was arrested based on information from the New York Police Department. Police would not say if he is a suspect in any of the other burglaries.
Acevedo was charged with burglary in the second degree. Police said they seek a second suspect.
