The Long Beach Fire Department was busy on Friday, having responded to four emergency calls, with assistance from the Island Park Fire Department.
Firefighters and EMTs responded to a call on Washington Boulevard and West Penn Street at about 2:30 p.m. after an elderly woman fell down and sustained minor injuries. She was treated at Long Beach Medical Center.
Long Beach firefighters and emergency personnel also responded to a call at a home located along the 600 block of West Walnut Street, after a resident fell during roof repairs to the house. He was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was treated for a broken arm.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, said Long Beach Fire Chief Scott Kemins, but the nice weather meant that many residents were involved in numerous outdoor activities, perhaps taking advantage of the first warm temperatures Long Beach has seen so far this year.
“It was busy, this was the first real nice day,” said Kemins. “Everyone was out.”
