On Dec. 24, police said, Bove, 24 and a resident of Westbury, tried to deliver a zip-lock bag containing marijuana, rolling papers, matches and a flint pad inside a bakery box filled with cannolis. Correction officers discovered the drugs during a routine search and had its contents tested by the Nassau County Police Forensic Evidence Lab. When test results came back positive for marijuana, police arrested Bove at his home.
Bove was arraigned on Jan. 4 at the First District Court in Hempstead. He pleaded not quilty and was released on $10,500 bail. He was charged with five counts of first and second-degree promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 30, and he faces up to 1 to 4 years in prison if convicted.
In a released statement, the Sheriff Officers Association, which represents Bove, said, ³This individual is currently facing a number of charges. At this time, a thorough investigation is underway and the leadership of our organization is also collecting information.²
Bob Zafonte, a member of the Nassau County Jail Advisory Committee and president of the East Meadow Civic Association, called Bove a bad apple. ³This is an isolated incident,² Zafonte said. ³Such a stupid incident and no logic for this type of conduct. It¹s bizarre.²
