Two people were injured last Saturday when a car sped in reverse into a Starbuck’s in Lynbrook, injuring the driver and a customer in the store.
Lynbrook firefighters, under the command of Chief James McDermott, were called to the scene, in the Philips Plaza shopping center on Sunrise Highway, at about 3:15 p.m. Tally-Ho Engine No. 3, Truck Company and the Emergency Medical Company, as well as the Lynbrook police and ambulances from the Nassau County Police Emergency Medical Service, also responded.
According to firefighters, the woman, who was driving a Honda Accord, backed out of a parking space opposite the coffee shop at high speed, jumped a curb and plowed through the glass front door, shattering a large plate-glass window as well. The car also struck a female customer in the store and destroyed furniture.
With the window framework on top of her car, the woman then drove forward out of the store and over the curb, striking two parked cars, officials said. Shattered glass from the store’s front window and door was sprayed around the area.
Both the driver and the customer were transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital. Neither was seriously injured. Lynbrook police were investigating the incident.
