After the suspect expressed an interest in buying an ice cream cake, police said, he brandished a handgun and demanded that the clerk turn over cash from the register. The clerk had difficulty opening the drawer, and the robber threatened to shoot her if she didn't hurry. She eventually handed him an undisclosed amount of cash, and he fled.
The suspect is described as male, black, in his 20s, 6-feet-2 to 6-feet-3, clean-shaven, wearing a dark jacket, dark ski-cap and blue jeans, police said.
Last seen running north on Bellmore Avenue, the robber was still at large at press time, Nassau County 1st Squad detectives said. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
