Five Centuries of Art: Selections from the Permanent Collection is an exhibit that spans the breadth of Heckscher Museum’s Permanent Collection of paintings. Sacred To The Memory: Photographs by Robert Reinhardt explores the “sacred ground” in cemeteries of Scotland, where each site encompasses a unique slice of history, culture, religion, art and architecture. Tiffany Lamps: Articles Of Utility, Objects of Art includes approximately 45 major works and includes displays of how the glass and lamps were made. The objects and displays are from the world-renowned Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass, curated by Lindsay Parrott. An accompanying exhibition, Tiffany and the Gilded Age, shows Tiffany’s influence on the art styles of his time, emphasizing Art Nouveau as a decorative theme. The presentation includes furniture, ceramics and objets d’art, jewelry, and paintings by the avant-garde artists of the period – all presented in a typical room environment. Through Nov. 9. White House Pets: Ambassadors At Large looks at the many ways in which animals have been part of White House history. It incorporates 50 historic and contemporary images and cartoons of White House animals through the years — from the magpie sent to Thomas Jefferson by the Lewis and Clark expedition, to George W. Bush’s Scottish terrier Barney, who starred in his own web-cam series. Through January 2009.
