Cast your ballot for Dan DeLilla

Pollitt began his career as a MetLife executive, serving at the company for 28 years. He was on the North Bellmore board for nine years. In 1999 he left the board to pursue a career in school business administration. Eventually he became assistant superintendent for business in the North Bellmore district. He then left that post to become assistant superintendent in the Bethpage-Plainview School District.
DeLilla, who is president of the North Bellmore board, was appointed a trustee after Pollitt left. A year later he ran for the board and won his first three-year term.
Now Pollitt is running for his old seat against the man who replaced him on the board. The Herald's endorsement goes to DeLilla.
DeLilla has served admirably as a trustee. For years he has been incredibly active in the schools, particularly through his involvement with the Special Education PTA.
He is currently a construction manager with the Triborough Bridge Authority, overseeing repair of all intrastate toll bridges and tunnels in New York City. The task is enormous. But it gives him first-hand knowledge of school construction -- and of how to save money on it.
Pollitt brings a vast array of credentials to the table. Quite obviously, he knows a great deal about school business administration. He knows a lot about the community and has stayed involved in it.
The only trouble is, his three grown children are out of the schools. DeLilla has three kids, one who graduated from Mepham High School, one who attends Mepham and one at Grand Avenue Middle School. DeLilla thus has a higher stake in the schools than Pollitt.
Re-elect Dan DeLilla to the North Bellmore Board of Education.
