CAP was created in 1980 by Gary Gaccione, an art teacher at Gunther Elementary. Every year CAP selects 130 students from the district's six elementary schools, who are bused to Gunther one day a week to work on a group project.
The students are divided into two study groups: art and drama. While in their groups, children work together and have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas for art projects and play productions.
At the program's conclusion, students unveil the fruits of their labor to district officials and parents at a year-end art exhibit and Broadway show.
