North Shore Animal League America held its 5th annual DogCatemy Celebrity Gala on Thurs., Nov. 4 at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.
This year, the Animal League welcomed comedian, actress, singer, and author Sandra Bernhard as their Mistress of Ceremonies.
Bernhard first made her name as a regular on stage at Los Angeles' famed Comedy Store, writes and develops all of her own material, and has produced many one-woman shows over the years including "Without You I am Nothing," which was also released as a feature film, and her critically acclaimed Broadway show "I'm Still Here...Damn It!" Last year, Bernhard brought her daughter, Cicley to adopt her first dog at North Shore Animal League America. George is now a little over a year old and is living a fabulous life in New York City.

Platinum recording artist Deborah Cox entertained the crowd of 400 animal lovers. Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts with six top-20 Billboard R&B singles and 10 No.1 hits on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart. In 2004, she made her Broadway debut in the Elton John and Tim Rice musical, Aida. She will be returning to Broadway in 2011, where she will portray the legendary Josephine Baker in Josephine.

Herald editor Mary Malloy was the videographer for John Barlett's win with "A Tribute to Tiny Tim," which won for Best Dog-umentary.

Other celebrities attending were Taylor Dayne, Stephen Baldwin, Orfeh and Andy Karl, Soprano's star Joe "Vito" Gannascoli, Josh Flitter, John Bartlett, Marc Bauwer and Brandon Hannan. Gannascoli, of East Rockaway, was a presenter.
