Town officials declared July 10 as “Viola Matthews Day” across the Town of Hempstead as she celebrated her 100th birthday in West Hempstead.
Matthews’ family traveled from far and wide to take part in the festivities and to celebrate with their gregarious matriarch. Town officials that included Town Supervisor Don Clavin and Tom Muscarella recognized Matthews for her outgoing personality and friendly smile that lit up the party.
“Ms. Matthews is an incredible person, and her loving personality was on full display yesterday as she was surrounded by family and her friends to celebrate this milestone birthday,” Clavin said.
