After opening music provided by the jazz ensemble conducted by Douglas Coleman, National Honor Society faculty advisor Maureen Boyce and Principal Joseph Pompilio addressed the assembled parents and students.
Honor society officers Tiffany Kataria (vice president), Alyssa Endrich (secretary), Nicole Javal (president) and Wendy Wong (treasurer) spoke about the character traits of scholarship, leadership, character and service, which are required for entry, along with a cumulative grade point average of 85 or above.
The officers then led the inductees in the honor society pledge, and Mrs. Boyce called the students to the stage, row by row, to receive their certificates, pins and carnations.
In conclusion, Boyce explained the National Honor Society's dedication to community service. Its monthly projects, she said, have included assisting teachers at parent nights in September and October, sponsoring the November fundraiser for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital which remarkably raised over $6,000, organizing the December blood drive, and now collecting funds for the Asian tsunami survivors.
"Success," she said, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson, "is leaving the world a better place by your thoughts, words and deeds."
Attendees then enjoyed special refreshments prepared by students in Central High School's Culinary Arts Program headed by chef Peter Augello.
