Chamber cancels Promenade

Members of the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce's executive board voted last week to cancel the Promenade planned for September.
Board members said there was not enough financial support for the annual event.
Because of similar problems last year, the board decided earlier this year to move the event from Park Avenue to Front Street in the hopes of generating additional funds. When it became clear that this was not going to come to fruition, the board decided to cancel it.
An outdoor-dining-and-shopping event to promote business, the Promenade brought thousands of people from Rockville Centre and surrounding communities together to stroll the traffic-free street, dine and be entertained.
Barbara Klein, vice president for media, said the chamber hopes to bring the Promenade back next year but that it will "require greater participation by the business community."
Plans are still on schedule for the annual 10K Run, which is held in November. Janet Fischetti will chair the event.
