Chamber council names honorees

Debbie J. Hirschberg is the banking center manager for Bank of America on Main St. in East Rockaway. She has been with the bank for thirty years. She is currently the treasurer for the East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, and well as for the East Rockaway Kiwanis Club and the Bay Park Civic Association. She is a former president of the East Rockaway High School PTA. and was honored last year on Founder's Day by the PTA, along with being awarded lifetime membership.
Hirchberg began her career with National Bank of North America, Nat West, Fleet and now Bank of America. She went to East Rockaway High School and studied banking at Hofstra University. She was a co-founder of the East Rockaway Chamber of Commerce and helped organize the first "Networking and Awards Night."
Hirschberg was born in Brooklyn and now resides in East Rockaway with her husband Charles and their children Chris, 23, and Dianna, 19.
Karen Schultze Pennachio is the assistant vice president and branch manager for Astoria Federal Savings in Lynbrook. She is a lifelong resident of the village, and a strong pillar within the community.
Pennachio took on the role of executive vice president of the Lynbrook Chamber, and now serves as vice president of the membership division. She has been hosting the annual Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner, honoring the police officer, firefighter and educator of the year for the past four years. She has coordinated numerous networking events to increase membership and bring referral opportunities to local businesses.
Pennachio is a commentator for Lynbrook's Channel 20, covering the Village Holiday Spectacular and Memorial Day Parade. She actively participates in community events such as the Lynbrook spring festivals, Lynbrook Expo, Lynbrook Fly with the Owls 4-Mile Race, and Dancing under the Stars. She attends grand openings, ribbon cutting ceremonies with the mayor and trustees, and other fundraising events held by local churches, synagogues and other organizations.
Karen strives to live by Astoria Federals motto "Putting People First" and credits her proud parents, George and Barbara Schultze for her drive to succeed.
