For 12 years, Robin Karp has served behind the scenes as executive director of the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce, helping guide the organization from average chamber to one of Nassau County's largest, most powerful business groups. This week, she announced that she is leaving her post to become legislative aide to the new Hempstead Town Council.
In this position, Karp will act as a community liaison for Councilman Gary Hudes (R-Levittown), president of Gennaro Jewelers on Bedford Avenue and a former Bellmore Chamber president.
During her tenure, Karp has also acted as the chamber's Family Street Festival coordinator. Each year, the September festival attracts more than 100,000 visitors.
Rona Weiss, wife of chamber officer David Weiss, will become the business group's executive assistant. Karp will remain as a consulting executive director for up to a year, until Rona Weiss is ready to assume her position full time.
