The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce held its annual installation dinner on Jan. 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lynbrook.
“As members of the Chamber, we consider ourselves a vital part of Lynbrook,” said President Bill Gaylor, who was sworn in for his second term of office. “We are committed to improving the wonderful sense of communication that we all share.” Gaylor pointed out that the Chamber’s membership is comprised of community organizations as well as the school district and the fire and police departments. Gaylor was sworn in by Nassau County Legislator Francis X. Becker.
“Lynbrook knows how to give a party!” said Nancy Friedman, sales associate at the Herald and the event’s coordinator. She wrote a witty poem about the evening, ending with a simple cheer for Mayor Brian Curran, who was named as the Chamber’s Man of the Year:
“Brian, Brian he's our man
If he can't do it, no one can!”
Jeff Greenfield introduced Curran on behalf of the Chamber. “We were nervous when you became mayor,” he said. “But you have given of yourself in every way. You are one of the most approachable mayors that we have ever had.” Greenfield presented Curran with his award “in recogition of your continuing support, cooperation and most important, your encouragement, always.”
In his speech, Curran said he humbly asked "Why?" upon hearing that he was to received the coveted distinction. The standing ovation gave him the answer.
