City hosts annual Turkey Trot race

The Long Beach Department of Recreation held its 7th-annual City Council Turkey Trot last Sunday, where nearly 600 runners gathered for one of the city’s most-anticipated events on the boardwalk. Kids who participated in the one-mile “Fun Run” received medals and turkey-shaped lollipops. The overall winners of the one-mile run were Matt Martinez with a time of 5:52 in the men’s division and Joy Abasolo with a time of 6: 24 in the women’s. Both winners are from Long Beach.

In the 10K, the overall winners were 15-year-old Will Isenberg, of Northport, who came in at 37:12, and Rebecca Seery, of Long Beach, who clinched her win with an impressive 43:27. The first Long Beach finishers were Terry Allen (38:03) and Seery. Following the race, the runners were treated to refreshments and entered a raffle drawing with prizes donated from local merchants.
