Civic members reiterated at their Aug. 7 that excessive speeding and red-light running on Bellmore Avenue rank among the community's top concerns.
For many years, there were few speed-limit signs posted on Bellmore Avenue. An elderly couple recently called the civic association, complaining that they could not cross Bellmore Avenue because of constantly speeding traffic. Many older adults live along Bellmore Avenue, including at a Town of Hempstead senior-citizen housing complex. The NBCA contacted the Town of Hempstead about the lack of signage.
"Bellmore Avenue runs past several houses of worship, senior living centers, Little League playing fields and, most importantly, Newbridge Road School. There's a lot of kids, and it was extremely dangerous to have no speed-limit posted," said Scott Belovin, the civic group
