Board meeting rescheduled


The Oceanside Board of Education meeting for June 6 has been canceled. The next board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on June 20 at Oceanside High School.


Walk-a-Thon


The Best Buddies Walk-a-Thon will be held at the Oceanside High School at 8:30 a.m. on June 5. This event will have popcorn and cotton candy, and feature a DJ and pianist Brittany Meier, who is blind and autistic. The non-profit organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for friendships and integrated employment. American Legion post meeting


The next meeting of the Oceanside American Legion will be at 8 p.m. on June 6 at the legion hall at 3078 Lawson Boulevard.

The Oceanside Library will host the following events for the month of June:


Showtime: Let's Do It!


John David Houston and Rick Heuthe for this original two-character musical play celebrating the songs and long-time friendship of Noel Coward and Cole Porter at the Oceanside Library on Wednesday, June 8, at 2pm


Author and director David Houston plays Noel Coward to Rick Heuthe's Cole Porter in this "what if" scenario about the pairing of these two multi-talented showmen (from opposite sides of the pond) for a spectacular cabaret show in Las Vegas.


Tickets which are limited to four per person, will be distributed beginning Sunday, May 22 to Oceanside School District residents and Thursday, May 26 to non-residents, if available.

* Book Discussion: "The Namesake." Fran Cohen leads this discussion on Jhumpa Lahiri's saga about an Indian family's struggle with the immigrant experience, at 2 p.m. on June 7.


* Art Lecture: Highlights of the Neue Galerie. Art lecturer Mary Vahey takes art lovers on a tour of this museum, a former Vanderbilt residence, and its collection of German and Austrian fine and decorative arts, at 2 p.m. on June 14.


* Creative Writing Workshop: Discover the Writer Within. Professor Barbara Novack invites writers of all levels to stretch their creativity in this popular workshop, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. on June 15.


* Travelogue: Alaska and the Canadian Rockies. Join world travelers Irma and Bob Mandel as they explore the cultures and rugged natural beauty of these increasingly popular vacation destination, at 2 p.m. on June 16.


* Cooking Demo: Lazy Days of Summer. Chef Lucian Veneziano cooks up an assortment of tasty and unusual treats to compliment any backyard barbecue, at 7:30 .m. on June 21. Registration is required.


* Lecture: The Genius of the Gardens (Part I of three-part series). Join representatives from Old Westbury Gardens as they explore the fascinating evolution of garden design starting with the ancient worlds of Persia, Japan and China, at 2 p.m. on June 22.


* Lecture: Scaling Down--Living Large in a Smaller Space. Organizational expert Judi Culbertson invites you to streamline your life by clearing the clutter from your home and making room for the things you love, at 2 p.m. on June 29.

Bridge games


Whether you're a novice or a seasoned player, the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC (15 Neil Court, Oceanside) has a duplicate bridge game for you. Facilitated by Marie Fiorillo, this on-going game takes place every Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. You will be matched with other participants at your level of experience - whether you're a beginner or an experienced player looking for some handy tips. JCC's gardening club


Get set for planting at The Gardening Club at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 15 Neil Court, Oceanside. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. From 11:30 a.m. noon is lunch (bring your own) and chat followed by programs from noon to 1 p.m. (noon to 1:30 p.m. for Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture Programs).

Delight to the music of Mark Blitzstein and Leonard Bernstein at the Oceanside Chorale, under the direction of Leonard Lehrman, proudly presents "Blitzstein & Bernstein."
