A search is underway for a missing person after a boat capsized in the waters off Point Lookout, the Coast Guard said Saturday night.

Four people were aboard the boat when it overturned after 10 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

Two people were rescued by another private boat, the Brett Allie 5, which came upon the capsized vessel. The two were wearing life jackets and clinging to the hull of the vessel.

Two Coast Guard boats from the Jones Beach station rescued another. A Coast Guard helicopter joined in the search for the missing person

A fourth was missing as of early Saturday evening. The three rescued were treated at a local hospital and released.

None of the names of those aboard were released.

"The readiness and quick response of our watchstanders, boat crews, and good Samaritans led to the swift rescue of the people in the water," said Cmdr. Valerie Boyd, a search and rescue mission coordinator with Sector Long Island Sound. "This is a reminder that anything can happen on the water and that preparation and wearing your lifejacket is critical to survivability and quick detection."

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Donald Clavin said, “I’m so thankful for all of our first responders for being at the ready at a moment’s notice. This was a monumental team effort, and I commend today’s heroes who responded to the call, including our local fire departments, police officers, the Coast Guard and other special units. I also thank Dr. Dave Neubert and the Town of Hempstead Emergency Medical Services team, and our town’s Lifeguard and Bay Constable units for their rescue efforts.”
