According to detectives, Christopher E. Coghlan, 20, of East Evans Street, East Rockaway was observed by Nassau Special Bureau of Operations officers, driving his 1994 Taurus on New Street, in Bay Park. In his report, arresting officer, Detective Jon Daniels, states that Couglan stopped at the dead end of New Street, where an unknown male entered the back seat of the car, exiting a short time later. Daniels states that Coghlan then drove away and was stopped on Fifth Avenue. Daniels referred to New Street as "a high drug activity location," in his report.
During an investigation, the officers observed an unknown amount of cash and an inhaler containing cocaine in Coghlan's vehicle. He was placed under arrest, and Daniels states that, "after a further investigation and consent search of his home, approximately 14 and one half ounces of cocaine was recovered."
Coghlan was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and was arraigned in First District Court Hempstead.
