'Come visit a school' for American Education Week, Nov. 19-22, 9-10:30 a.m.

Posted
      Now in its 81st year, American Education Week celebrates the importance of public education in fulfilling the American democratic tradition, but it also, with this year's national theme of "Making Public Schools Great for Every Child," promotes the collaborative community responsibility in helping students achieve their potential.
      American Education Week was created in 1921 after World War I by the American Legion, National Education Association, and U.S. Office of Education. It is still held during the week after Veterans' Day (originally called Armistice Day), but is now co-sponsored by many other groups including the National PTA, the National School Boards Association, and national associations of principals, teachers, administrators, counselors, school public information directors and other educators.
      To enable everyone to see the schools in action during the school day, Valley Stream Central, North and South High Schools and Memorial Junior High will be hosting their annual continental breakfast open house programs on Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 19-22, from 9-10:30 a.m.

The Schedule
      Planned by Community Information Coordinator Arlene Hinkemeyer with North High School principal Dr. Thomas Troisi, new Memorial Junior High principal Dr. Kathleen Cairo, Central High School principal Joseph Pompilio and South High principal Dr. Stephen Lando, the programs will take place according to the following schedule:
      * Tuesday, Nov. 19, 9-10:30 a.m., North High School, 750 Herman Avenue, Franklin Square;

      * Friday, Nov. 22, 9-10:30 a.m., South High School, 150 Jedwood Place, Valley Stream.
