Sandoval, who recently performed at the Grammy Awards presentation, is also active as a classical performer and appears with symphony orchestras throughout the world. His television appearances include the Grammy Award-winning "Live At Festival Hall" and a profile on HBO's "For Love Of Country."
Following his studies at the Cuban National School of Arts, Sandoval performed with Orquestra Cubana de Musica Moderna. He later formed his own jazz, ensemble Irakere, with saxophonist Paquito D'Rivera and pianist Chucho Valdes. U.S. audiences got to know them at the 1978 Newport Jazz Festival. In addition to his worldwide tours, Sandoval has been heard on film soundtracks for "The Perez Family," "The Mambo Kings" and "Havana."

A cultural reckoning: Ralston Crawford--The jazz photographs is an exhibit of vintage jazz photographs of noted painter Ralston Crawford, in celebration of Black History Month. These photographs, from the 1950s, reveal the roots of New Orleans Jazz in African-American culture that influenced many visual artists of that era. Through Mar. 12.
