Daniel Barenboim has had a distinguished career as a piano soloist, chamber musician and conductor. He has performed throughout the world, at the major music venues, with many of today's most famed ensembles and instrumentalists. From 1975 to 1989 he was music director of the Orchestre de Paris. In 1991 he became music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, followed, in 1992, by being named general music director of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin (where he is now chief conductor for life). Barenboim has also had long and distinguished associations with the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic.
He has always been active as a chamber musician, performing with his late wife, cellist Jacqueline du Pre, as well as with Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman, among others. A prolific recording artist, Barenboim has made recordings for many major classical labels since 1954. He currently records for EMI Classics.

A cultural reckoning: Ralston Crawford--The jazz photographs is an exhibit of vintage jazz photographs of noted painter Ralston Crawford, in celebration of Black History Month. These photographs, from the 1950s, reveal the roots of New Orleans Jazz in the African-American culture that influenced many of the visual artists of that era. Through Mar. 12. A Walk Through The Ages: Chinese Archaic art from the sondra landy goss collection features more than 40 ceramic, jade and bronze objects from 3400 BCE to 220 CE. The Banjo: The people and sounds of America's folk instrument offers a unique reflection of American culture.
