Thrift Shop. Malverne Community Presbyterian Church's thrift shop is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church hall on Nottingham Road.

Malverne Homemakers meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. at the Malverne Community Presbyterian Church on Nottingham Road.

Summer Movie. On Friday, August 27 at 1:30 p.m. In "Osama," a 12-year-old Afghan girl and her mother lose their jobs when the Taliban closes the hospital where they work. Feeling she has no choice, the mother disguises her daughter as a boy. Now called Osama, the girl embarks on a terrifying and confusing journey.

Blood Drive
A Lynbrook community blood drive, in honor of Isabelle Grace Jordan will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28 and Sunday, Aug. 29, from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's Council, 78 Hempstead Avenue, Lynbrook. Call (516) 745-1888 for more information.

Town meeting

A West Hempstead Town meeting has been called for Thursday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Echo Park Community Room, 399 Nassau Boulevard in West Hempstead.

Representatives from Town of Hempstead departments will be on hand at the meeting to help address and rectify any problems or concerns that West Hempstead residents may have.
