Bridge tournaments
Whether you're a novice or a seasoned player, the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC (15 Neil Court, Oceanside) has a duplicate bridge game for you. Facilitated by Marie Fiorillo, this on-going game takes place every Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. You will be matched with other participants at your level of experience -- whether you're a beginner or an experienced player looking for some handy tips. Jews in America: The First 350 Years
Join Al Kaminsky for a fascinating journey back to 1654 when the first 23 Jewish immigrants arrived in America on August 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC. The JCC is located at 15 Neil Court in Oceanside.
Learn about the wave, and then the flood of immigrants that followed and how they flourished, shaped their country and the world. Al Kaminsky is a teacher and lecturer with an extensive background in Jewish history and the Yiddish language. He has taught at Hofstra University, Teachers College, Kingsborough Community College and has appeared at numerous libraries and community centers.

A Lecture

JCC's gardening club
Get set for planting at The Gardening Club at the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, 15 Neil Court, Oceanside. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month. From 11:30 a.m. noon is lunch (bring your own) and chat followed by programs from noon to 1 p.m. (noon to 1:30 p.m. for Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture Programs).
JCC presents Foxwoods trip
Come enjoy the "wonder of it all" at Foxwoods resort and casino in Connecticut on Aug. 25.
The trip is sponsored by the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC, located at 15 Neil Court in Oceanside.
The day includes a bagel breakfast on a luxurious coach bus; movies to and from the casino; givebacks from Foxwoods towards food and gambling, six casinos in one location, 6,400 slot machines; 354 gaming tables, the world's largest bingo hall and more.
We'll leave the JCC at 8 a.m. and return approximately 8 p.m. The fee is $40.

Nepal discussion at library
Join author Sally Wendkos Olds as she presents her latest book, "A Balcony In Nepal: Glimpses of a Himalayan Village," told in a travelogue highlighting her numerous adventures on July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Oceanside Library.
Old's latest work focuses on the travels she and award-winning artist Margaret Roche made to Nepal in 1993 and subsequent visits, where they eventually helped a community establish a library. Participants will enjoy a multi-faceted glimpse into the everyday life of Nepal through a discussion and a slide presentation based on the author's experiences.
