Alliance meets The Community Alliance, an umbrella group of some 35 civic and community organizations focused on quality-of-life concerns, will hold its next meeting on Thursday, July 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall at 60 Hill Avenue in Elmont. Leaders of all civic and community associations are encouraged to attend and participate. The Alliance, spanning the township from Elmont to Wantagh, is currently engaged in the battle to eradicate illegal accessory apartments. Town of Hempstead Supervisor, Kate Murray, who recently issued a mailing highlighting a Quality of Life Initiative, and Nassau County Assessor of Taxes, Harvey Levinson, who has proposed assessing and taxing multiple family dwellings that masquerade as single family homes as commercial properties, have both been invited to attend the July 22 forum. Kids Art Spend your summer days creatively. Join Creative Art Space for Kids in Lynbrook for a summer filled with artful adventures. DRAWING & PAINTING - POTTERY/SCULPTURE - MIXED MEDIA: Students will be introduced to working with acrylic paints, pastels, pottery/clay and other various materials. In-depth art projects in will be encouraged for the term of the session. Students work with their imaginations with emphasis placed on developing, expressing and celebrating their own personal artistic style. This is a 6 week program: starting July 8- August 13 (12 classes) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for ages 5-12. Cinderella, Cinderella Plaza Theatre Productions will be staging the classic fairy tale at Rath Park in Franklin Square on July 26 at 10:30 a.m., Echo Park in West Hempstead on July 29 at 1:30 p.m. and Averill Blvd. Park in Elmont on July 30 at 10:30 a.m. The show is free and open to the public, so arrive early and bring lawn chairs or blankets. Exchange families neededWorld Exchange, a non-profit, international exchange program, is seeking host families for this summer. Hosts are needed to share their homes with French teenagers, ages 15-19, from July 12th-31. Families interested in hosting a student should contact Alan or Diana Weinstein at (516) 538-4553.

9/11 Memorial Fundraiser. The Nassau County 9/11 Memorial Foundation will host the 2nd Annual Taste of Nassau at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park on Monday, July 19 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the construction of a memorial at Eisenhower Park inEast Meadow honoring Nassau County residents who lost their lives on 9/11. Tickets are $50 for family members, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS. Patron sponsorships or general admission are available for a donation of $100, and tickets for benefactors cost $300. Valmont Civic The Valmont Civic Association holds it's meetings on the first Monday of every month at the Elmont Public Library at 7:30 p.m.

Sons of Italy The Sons of Italy in America is seeking new members to join America Lodge #2245. Tai Chi Join us on Friday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. for a tai chi class led by Rene Harris and Bob Janowsky of the Chen School of Taiqui. The classes will be followed by meditation. The classes are ongoing and held the second Friday and the fourth Thursday of each month. No fourth Thursday class in June. Coffee served.

Health Assessment June Friedel, R.N., will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring. She will be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling. Sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs. This is an ongoing program held the third Thursday of each month. Join us on July 15 at 10 a.m. for this month's session.

Family literacy Nassau BOCES Adult Learning Center has developed a FREE program designed to help families improve their English language skills and learn about their community and country. Aimed at parents/caregivers and their children ages 6 - 11, the Family Literacy and Civics program will be held at the Elmont Public Library on Saturdays from 10 a. m. - 12 noon. Board meeting The Elmont Public Library Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 24 at 7:30 p.m. Motion may be made to meet in executive session in accordance with the law. The public is welcome to attend.

Writer's group The Writer's Group under the direction of Denise Brosokas meets in the library on the third Tuesday of every month to share ideas and offer support and guidance. Join the group Tuesday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. and share your writing.
