Vacation Bible Experience. Quilt Show. The Malverne Historical Society presents a Quilt Show featuring the quilts of Elaine Burns, a longtime Malverne resident. The show is on Saturday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, July 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Historical Society on the corner of Church Street and Ocean Avenue. "Cinderella."Plaza Theatre Productions will be staging the classic fairy tale at Echo Park in West Hempstead on July 29 at 1:30 p.m. The show is free and open to the public, so arrive early and bring lawn chairs or blankets. Team Tennis for kids ages 13-18 Must know how to keep score, serve and have fun. Play against other Nassau County towns, run by the United States Tennis Association,the Village of Malverne and School District 12. No residency requirement. 9/11 Memorial Fundraiser. The Nassau County 9/11 Memorial Foundation will host the 2nd Annual Taste of Nassau at The Carltun at Eisenhower Park on Monday, July 19 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the construction of a memorial at Eisenhower Park inEast Meadow honoring Nassau County residents who lost their lives on 9/11. Tickets are $50 for family members, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS. Patron sponsorships or general admission are available for a donation of $100, and tickets for benefactors cost $300. Thrift Shop. Malverne Community Presbyterian Church's thrift shop is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church hall on Nottingham Road.

Malverne Homemakers meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. at the Malverne Community Presbyterian Church on Nottingham Road.

Anime Workshop. On Thursday, July 15, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., artist David O. Miller returns to teach young people how to draw in the Japanese anime style and how to apply these techniques to comic characters. Registration begins July 1. There is a limit of 20 participants, so sign up early!

Young Adult Film. "Spirited Away," on Thursday, July 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. A Japanese anime film about a girl named Chihiro who travels to the world of gods to find a way to turn her parents into human form after they were turned into pigs. Rated PG. 124 min.

Summer Reading Club. Children ages 3 to entering fifth grade are invited to join the Summer Reading Club: New York is Read, White & Blue at the Children's Room. West Hempstead patrons may register beginning Monday, June 21, and non-residents may register beginning July 5 while spots are available. Hundreds of children visit the library every summer for prizes, guessing games, and good books. This year, there will be a magic show, machine making and special programs for kids under 3. Read five books by Aug. 12 a receive an invitation to a special end-of-summer show.
